This one is harder, since I think I lean more towards female protagonists than male, but I think I'll say John Perry from the Old Man's War series by John Scalzi

Favorite Side Kick in a book:
Also difficult to narrow down because there are so many that I love. Spot in the Young Wizards series by Diane Duane

Favorite Couple in a Book:
Griffin & Sabine in the Griffin & Sabine series by Nick Bantock

Favorite Book of 2009:
I read a lot of fantastic books in '09, but if I have to pick just one I'll say Fire by Kristin Cashore
